Happy Nutrition Month! In case you haven’t heard, March is Nutrition Month and Registered Dietitians actually get an entire “Dietitian’s Day” devoted to their profession on March 20th – YAY! So let’s celebrate! Instead of writing a more traditional “Nutrition Month” blog, which focuses on a healthy eating theme, I thought it might be more interesting to write about some of my reflections on actually being a Dietitian.Read More
Did you know that March 14th is National Dietitian Day?! Well you know now! (P.S. can someone please remind my husband – I think he is 0 for 9 and counting…) Every year a day in March is dedicated to dietitians across Canada, to celebrate RDs as the trusted choice for reliable, evidence-based, food and nutrition advice. For some, the word “dietitian” might evoke images of tall skinny lady wearing a white lab coat with a tight bun in her hair, carrying a clip board with Canada’s Food Guide and a calculator to calculate a calorie-restricted diet. The topics that get me most fired up, you wonder? Well, you may be surprised to hear that many common perceptions about gas/bloating, gluten and food sensitivities are often times misinformed and these are some of the hardest areas for me to just shut up and be quiet.Read More
If you are a parent with a picky eater at home, no doubt the first thought that popped into your mind when you saw that the theme for nutrition month was "Take the Fight out of Food" was “yes, I wish I could stop fighting with my preschooler/toddler over eating his or her food!”Read More
March is National Nutrition Month and we dietitians get a little too excited about March since we get to share (with just about anyone who will listen to us) all about what we do and the importance of healthy eating and nutrition for a healthy life.Read More
I googled "dietitian" today and received 20.7 million hits! Cheers to that! Registered Dietitians are finally getting on the map!
However, there are still SO many people who don't REALLY know what we do - who perhaps think that we are drill sergeants who prescribe strict weight loss diets for all!
